Benefits Overview

Paterson Public Schools is pleased to have trained benefit counselors assist you with this year's open enrollment. Each Paterson employee will meet with a benefit counselor for a personalized 1-to-1 session. During this session, your benefits will be enrolled or waived through our new electronic enrollment system. All benefit eligible employees must elect or waive this year using the new electronic enrollment system. Sessions with your benefit counselor will be available from May 4th to May 24th of 2018.

See below for specific enrollment instructions. The following benefits will be offered during this year's enrollment:

  • Medical - we are transitioning from the SEHBP (State Plan) to a private plan. We are matching all of the benefits plan designs (10 SEHBP plan designs) and ensure that the benefits are "equal-to-or-better-than." You will also see a decrease in your contributions!
  • Prescription Drug - we are transitioning from Benecard to Express Scripts. We are matching the benefits plan design and ensuring that the benefits are "equal-to-or-better-than." You will also see a decrease in your contributions!
  • Dental - No Changes. Open enrollment for this plan will be in the Fall.
  • Vision - No Changes. Open enrollment for this plan will be in the Fall.
  • Flexible Spending Account - No Changes. Open enrollment for this plan will be in the Fall.
You will also have the opportunity to apply for these NEW voluntary benefits: 
*Disability Insurance – replaces a portion of your income to help make ends meet if you are totally disabled due to a covered accident or covered sickness. This coverage helps you to maintain your lifestyle. This NEW plan is offered guaranteed acceptance and is not based on your age!
*Hospital Confinement Insurance – complements your major medical coverage by providing a lump-sum benefit you can use to help pay the direct and indirect costs related to an inpatient stay. This NEW plan is offered guaranteed acceptance! 
*Critical Illness Insurance – complements your major medical coverage by providing a lump-sum benefit you can use to help pay the direct and indirect costs related to a covered critical illness. This NEW plan is offered guaranteed acceptance! 
*Life Insurance – enables you to tailor coverage for your individual needs and helps provide financial security for your family members.NEW Whole Life and Term Life with guaranteed acceptance options available for both you and your family!

*Please note these benefit are available to part-time faculty that work 20+hours per week!
